My best kept secrets that will help you know your worth and maintain it throughout your career!
Women in the workplace have many challenges to face. One of these challenges is keeping their self worth high despite all the noise and negativity around them. In this blog post, we will discuss some of my best kept secrets that will help you know your worth and maintain it throughout your career!
It's important not to compare yourself to others. Remember that you will be your harshest critic and there is always someone smarter, more successful, or prettier than you are. The old adage "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" reminds us we are all beautiful in our own way which means it doesn't matter.
Success comes from knowing your own worth, all on its own, and not in comparison to others. Your success is about you, it's not a game of comparisons.
2. Know what you're good at and where you can grow
Another way to know your worth is by knowing what you are good at and where you need improvement. This will help keep the balance in your self-esteem. It's important to identify these things because it can give a boost when we're not feeling so great about ourselves, or if we feel like we've hit rock bottom and don't know how to get back up.
I suggest having a notebook or electronic document where you list your strengths and accomplishments. Take some time and really think about who your are, what you are good at, and tasks where you have excelled. This list is great to come back to when you're feeling stuck or undervalued.
Now, equally important, but not as much fun, is making that list of skills you need to develop. Maybe you interrupt too much and don't listen enough. Maybe you have a fundamental skill like clear and concise writing that needs development. Whatever it is, don't skip this list. Its critical for your future success.
3. Look for opportunities to develop skills that will be needed down the road
Now that you know the areas you need to develop, seek out opportunities to improve. Volunteer for that challenging task at work. Take a course or seek out educational videos. You know where you need to focus so take action when you get the chance. Yes, it will feel uncomfortable and yes, it may be a little frustrating developing new skills, but you are worth it and so is your long-term success.
There are many areas of life that can be affected when we don't know our worth. We might become depressed and resentful if we feel undervalued by colleagues or bosses. We might turn to harmful habits such as over consuming alcohol, or overeating for comfort when we feel unwanted.
When we know our worth, when we stay strong and confident in ourselves, it changes everything!
